Membership
We are open to the entire community, and anyone with young children up to 5 years old are welcome to become a member. New members or groups are encouraged to trial playgroup before signing up, with trials generally run in the first week of each month.
Playgroup fees are payable for the calendar year January to December and are non-refundable. Fees are pro rated for families joining throughout the year.
Your annual membership fee includes membership to both Highgate Playgroup and Playgroup WA (PGWA) and includes the essential public liability insurances required for attending the centre. Annual fees entitle the member and one child to attend one regular playgroup session per week. Additional children or sessions can be added for only $15 extra. As a not-for-profit organisation, the fees received from memberships and events allow us to operate the centre. The fees cover the continual purchasing of new toys and equipment, utilities, amenities and consumable supplies for hot beverages, crafts, and cleaning.
Check out the Sessions & Events page for more details, including a calendar of active and available sessions, or contact us to enquire about a free trial. Trials are generally run in the first week of each month.
Once you’re ready to apply, you can fill in the membership application form.
Regular Sessions
Regular Playgroup sessions occur weekly and session times are available 3 times per day, from Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings, all year round (including school holidays). Session times are organised for morning (approx. 9:30-11:30am), noon (approx. 12-2pm) and afternoon (approx. 2:30-4:30pm). Check out our Calendar to see which sessions are currently active, or to find a vacant session if there’s a group of you!
Age groups for each session time vary from newborns and infants, to pre-schoolers. Group sizes vary with the average number of families being 7-12 with 1 or 2 children each. Children’s ages in each session vary, with most open sessions being of mixed ages.
We do not engage carers or facilitators at Highgate Playgroup, so a parent/guardian must be in attendance for each family during a session. Each group organises and runs their own sessions based on their individual needs and ages of their children. This ranges from structured activities such as arts and crafts to free play, or a mixture of both. This allows parents to come together with their children in a way that suits their own group.
Contact us if you are interested in joining one of our existing, open sessions, or you would like to start your own group in a vacant time slot. Generally, to start a new regular session you’ll need at least 4 families (adult with at least 1 child).
Adhoc Sessions
Sometimes members volunteer to organise an adhoc Playgroup session, which are open to other members and for trials. Attendance at adhoc sessions is at no additional cost, unless specified in the event details (i.e. organisers may request a small contribution on the day toward materials).
Adhoc sessions can be organised during available session times, not currently allocated for a Regular session. Members interested in organising an adhoc session should contact us to discuss options.
Check out the Sessions & Events calendar for a full list of available sessions, including details of age group, specialisation and session status.
